On this video, Motor Trend Senior Features Editors Jonny Lieberman and Jason Cammisa try to determine if Chevy’s 2017 Camaro LT 1LE can trounce the BMW M2 in the same manner that the former’s V-8 big brother beat the M4. This is essentially American muscle vs. German engineering at its finest.
Chevrolet is offering, for the first time, the 1LE elite track package on its V-6 Camaro. Under the matte black hood of the 1LE is the aforementioned six-cylinder mill which cranks out 335 hp, enough to propel the muscle car from zero to 60 mph in five seconds flat. On the other hand, the BMW M2 is a handling-focused rear-wheel-drive coupe equipped with a twin-turbo straight-six that blasts out 30 more ponies, enough for a 4.4-second sprint to 60 mph.
In the end, the BMW emerged as the winner because it’s simply the better car – its faster and has a better engine that’s mated to a gearbox with correct gear ratios. In addition, you can get the V-8 version of the 1LE if you shell out a little more cash. You’ll get all those electronic goodies that really change the way the 1LE drives.
