As standard, a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is the most powerful combustion-powered sedan on the market thanks to its 707 horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine.
Despite that, the confident owner of an 800 rwhp Ford Mustang was sure he could beat the Hellcat down the quarter mile in the U.S. recently. Unfortunately for him, the Hellcat he raced was far from stock.
While the Ford Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 has been upgraded with the 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat has also benefited from numerous performance changes, resulting in a total of 850 horsepower to the rear wheels.
Nevertheless, the Ford Mustang guy says it should be very easy to beat the Hellcat. Boy was he in for the rude shock. As soon as the two launch off the line, a heavier SRT Hellcat immediately pulls away, thanks in part to its 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Ford Mustang owner meanwhile is left to row his own gears in the distance as the SRT Hellcat pulls further and further away.
Unless you own a Tesla or the supercar, it’s probably wise to stay away from the Hellcat twins. Lesson learnt. Let the cars do the talking.
