Drag racing can be very expensive, but you can do it on the budget and still get some thrills out of it. Instead of spending your kids’ college funds on the sub 10-second car, you can go for something much smaller; just like this dude.
A Smart ForTwo is probably not a first thing that comes to mind when it comes to drag racing, and that’s part of what makes it unique.
Sure, it’ll require some additional modifications; this particular vehicle was fitted with a 150 horsepower, Volkswagen-sourced 1.9 TDI, widened fenders and bigger rear wheels. And that’s it.
The result? The 1,610 lb (730 kg), rear-engine, diesel dragster that can cross the quarter-mile in an impressive 13 seconds.
Bear in mind that we are talking about a 150 horsepower car capable of covering the 400-metre dash faster than the BMW M3 CSL E46, a Mercedes CLA45 AMG, a 2016 Ford Focus RS, or the BMW M4 Cabriolet, to name a few.
And the best thing about it is its wheelie-popping abilities, caused by a big TDI in the back, that’s taking the car’s fun-o-meter to the whole new level. What a ridiculous contraption. I love it.
