The world’s first commercial shipment by the self-driving truck has just been completed by Otto and Anheuser-Busch.
The shipment of the fully loaded trailer of Budweiser beer saw the autonomous truck drive over 120 miles from the Fort Collins, Colorado through to Denver, Colorado Springs. And remarkably, a truck completed the journey on I-25 without any human intervention, although the truck driver was monitoring its every move from the sleeper berth.
Otto has developed its self-driving technology to offer the truck drivers the opportunity to rest during long stretches of tedious highway driving, says its system has a potential to extend productive work hours without any sacrifice to safety.
After a successful delivering, Otto co-founder Lior Ron and said The incredible success of this pilot shipment is the example of what is possible when you deploy self-driving technology. And it also showcases the importance of collaboration with the forward-looking states like Colorado and innovative companies like the Anheuser-Busch.
By embracing this technology, both organizations are actively contributing to the creation of the safer and more efficient transportation network.
We are excited to have reached this milestone together, look forward to further rolling out our technology on the nation’s highways. Otto is currently working with Uber and to further develop advanced self-driving technologies.
